January 13, 14, & 15th

There will be a pre - Mazatlan Bird Festival tour to the Tufted Jay Preserve guided by the biologists from Pronatura Noroeste and Mr. Santos Vazquez, the local guide for the preserve. Dr. Miguel Angel Cruz will lead this trip where we will spend 3 nights in the cabins on the Mesa de los Alisos. Two of the days will be spent looking for the specialties of the pine/oak forested canyons of the preserve like the Tufted Jay, Brown-backed Solitaire, Red-headed Tanager, Russet- Nightingale Thrush, Aztec Thrush, Golden-browed Warbler and the Pine Flycatcher. Learn about the opportunities and challenges of protecting this important area.  We will also spend one day looking for the Sierra Madre Sparrow over the border into the state Durango.

The trip includes transportation, bilingual guide, accommodations, meals, bird list, and drinking water. Most meals will be prepared by the ladies of the El Palmito Community.
